Astro's Playroom Wiki

Wako Tako is the second boss of Astro Bot Rescue Mission and reappears in Astro Bot. He makes short appearances throughout world 2-4 Astro Jones, mainly by altering the track around and making obstacles with his tentacles, although his head can briefly be seen during the massive jump above the lava pool halfway through the level. It reappears as the boss in world 2-5 Hot Date.

Appearance[]

Wako Tako appears as a big red octopus although it swims around in lava (or water in Astro Bot) with the titular 8 tentacles and massive head. The big difference being Wako has 2 big cartoonish eyes surrounded a metal eyeplate. There also appears to be a lot of markings on him, which only appear when he gets mad (the markings light up when this happens). In Astro Bot, he sports some boxing gloves on his tentacles and a snorkel mask when swimming in water as he's no longer associated with lava environments.

Walkthrough[]

Upon rescuing enough bots to unlock and enter 2-5 Hot Date, he will start out with Astro traversing some platforms above a massive lava lake and after reaching a big platform, the boss fight begins.

Boss Fights[]

Rescue mission[]

Attack 1[]

He slams his tentacles down and dragging all but some platforms under the lava.

Attack 2[]

He creates a array of platforms and spitting out babies as well as fire enemies appearing (Since you use the water gadget on the whole fight, you need to use it to kill the fire enemies while punching away the babies).

After a bit, Wako will get annoyed suck up a bunch of lava and spit a giant flaming boulder at the player, causing him to get tired. The player must spray the boulder with the water gadget to cool it off, or else it will bounce off the player's visor and destroy the platforms temporarily (long enough to kill Astro Bot via lava), but if you extinguish the boulder in time, it will drop to the platform, allowing Astro to pick up the boulder and throw it at Wako’s eye, turning it pink. Repeat this 2 more times and Wako will fall onto the platform. Attach the water gadget to its mouth with a hose and continue to gush water Wako’s insides, until eventually, the hose disconnects, and Wako, in shock, will cover up his mouth only to fly into the air and explode into fireworks, ending the fight. Defeating Wako Tako will reward the player with the Explosive Data trophy.

Astro Bot (game)[]

Phase 1[]

He starts off throwing punches using his boxing gloves onto the sand. Wait for him to get one of his fists stuck in the sand, then use your Twin-Frog Gloves to destroy the first glove. Then, he will jump out from the ocean and spawn some enemies. It is recommended that you use a Spin Attack to defeat all the enemies quickly and cleanly. He will then put his tentacles under the arena, and start punching upwards. Like the first glove, wait for one of his fists to get stuck in the sand. Punch it again and again until he raises two tentacles up. While he is doing this, you can see red blotches on his suckers. Do a slingshot trick with your Frog Gloves and he will go dizzy. Punch the sides of his goggles.

Phase 2[]

Wako will suck up a bit of water from his mouth and spit Urchins at you. Punching these urchins are advised. After this, he will punch straight at you. Mash the L2 and R2 buttons when punching his glove. After this, he will, again, jump out of its waters and summon enemies and ink blots that slow Astro down. Defeat all enemies again and Wako Tako will punch downwards just like he did at the first phase, and run around until its fist gets stuck in its own ink blots. Wait until he raises two tentacles up again, do a slingshot trick and punch him again to destroy his mask fully.

Phase 3[]

Wako will swim far away and part with the seas. You will need to do some platforming with the Frog Gloves to reach his arena. Caution as he will surge waves at you, making you lose a life. Stand on high ground until it is safe. His attack is firing Urchins upwards. Watch out for circular shadows, for it is where the Urchins will fall. He will stick one of his eyes out, giving you a chance to punch it. Do this again, and you will see that his eyelids are exposed. Pull the slingshot trick one last time to send him flying. Finally find Kratos and Atreus in an upside-down boat.

Trivia[]

  • Like all other Astro Bot Rescue Mission bosses, Wako can be refought in the challenge belt; however, the level section of the fight is removed.
  • Also like the other bosses, Wako's original level, Hot Date, cannot be replayed once completed.
  • The octopus is one of the three Astro Bot Rescue Mission bosses to look more mechanical and biological, the other 2 are Mighty Chewy and Mecha-Ladon.
  • Wako Tako, like the other bosses, will appear dazed and defeated on the world map once defeated for the first time.
  • For some reason, Wako Tako make low-pitched elephant noises, both while roaring and throughout the battle, even though, octopi are invertebrates while elephants are mammals.
  • Wako Tako has a cover on his mouth in his scuba mask in the new Astro Bot game, signifying that it is to prevent his body from being filled up with water from his mouth like in the previous game.

the octopus boss's first design.. disgusting.

  • while in production, Wako Tako looked a lot more different (it had orange skin instead of dark magenta/dark red, its head was a lot more bigger and it didn't have its metal eyeplate.
  • In Astro Bot, Wako Tako's design of the babies was changed from a Gloopy lookalike to an actual Octopus design, and they're known as Squirties.
  • Wako Tako's weakpoints such as his eyes in Astro Bot can be damaged quicker if you spin attack and punch the Twin-Frog gloves when you're at close range.
    • It also works on Nebulax's hands and one of the locks as long as the Twin-Frog Gloves is chosen on the wheel.
