Appearance[]
Nebulax is a large, light-green alien. He has a round blob shape with two antennae on his head. He has large eyes with purple eyelids and red pupils. He has a large mouth with unevenly-spaced teeth and purple interior. His arms are thin with three fingers on each of his hands. The rest of his body is never seen, as he is always seen riding a silver UFO.
History[]
Astro Bot Rescue Mission[]
Nebulax first appears at the start of Astro Bot Rescue Mission, where he steals the Headset from Astro's Ship. This Not only causes Astro's Friends to be scattered troughout the Galaxy, but also the destruction of the ship wich leads Astro to need the Players help. In order to stop Astro from going after him, Nebulax sends his army of robot soldiers after him, led by his equally tyrannical gang. The rest of the game is spent chasing him down, while saving the other Bots and fighting Nebulax's Gang of mechanical Beasts until Astro finally confronts him.
In a final battle between Astro and Nebulax, the latter uses his own version of a PS Controller, which he uses to attack Astro and the Player. If Astro evades His attacks long enough, He will try to crush Astro with his Controller, which gives him the chance to attack Nebulax's Hand. This gives the Player the chance to steal his weaponized Controller and Attack him with it. Doing this three times leads to the Controller being equipped with a blaster, which Nebulax tries to escape by throwing multiple enemies at the Player and Astro. Doing this long enough leads to the Controller charging up a laser which directly hits Nebulax and blasts him away at the other end of the Galaxy. This results with Nebulax's UFO exploding into a massive supernova, which seemingly kills Nebulax and sends the Headset back to Astro and his ship, the latter of which repairs it.
Despite the lethal appearance of his defeat, Nebulax actually survived the Explosion and grew a burning hatered against Astro and His Pals.
Astro's Playroom[]
While Nebulax doesn't directly appear, an image of him appeared during the Astro Bot launch event. And Nebulax is shown in the puzzle in Astro's Playroom
Astro Bot[]
Nebulax reappears as the main antagonist of Astro Bot. In the opening cutscene, he notices the mothership and breaks it open, discovering the CPU Kid. He flees after stealing the computer, leaving the wreckage behind. At the start of every world, a cutscene plays showing Nebulax interacting with the CPU, such as offering it fake flowers as a prank, playing catch with it only to throw the ball into it, drawing on it with markers, and burping on it. Eventually, after every main world is cleared and the mothership is fixed, Nebulax shows up to gloat and teleports away, leaving a portal open. Astro Bot forms the PlaySquadron, and they eventually catch up to the alien. Nebulax threatens Astro, but soon acts as though he recoils in fear when the squadron shows up, and raises a white flag as surrender. He then hits the squadron away with the flag and gets rammed into with the mothership, starting his boss fight. Once defeated, his UFO starts to short-circuit, and he falls with it under the mothership. However, he has the strength to throw many objects at Astro Bot, ending with a pirate ship, which is launched back into his head, ending the boss fight. As his UFO explodes into a black hole, he grabs Astro Bot, and they both go into the black hole, which then explodes. Nebulax is not seen again until the credits, where he, revealed to have survived, carries all the main bosses from the game on his UFO. They notice the player and angrily yell at them, only to be slammed into by the words “THE END”.
Boss Fight[]
Part One[]
The battle takes place on the PS5 Mothership. At the beginning of the battle, Nebulax's upside-down UFO with the CPU Kid inside the dome is seen in front of the Mothership. When the player approaches the CPU, it is immediately locked up by three glass locks and the dome is closed by a metal door. Nebulax flips his UFO right-side up, flipping Astro back onto the Mothership and the battle begins.
In battle, Nebulax reveals a roulette wheel with six segments on the outer ring of his UFO. Nebulax spins the wheel while a VIP Bot tosses a sphere to Astro. The player must throw the sphere onto the wheel to stop it. The icon that the wheel arrow lands on determines the event that occurs for that phase of the battle.
Once the player damages Nebulax after the event, his UFO will be flipped upside-down, revealing the open dome. While enemies spawn on the Mothership, Nebulax will cover up the dome with his fingers. The player must run to Nebulax's fingers and repeatedly hit them to loosen his grip and expose the dome, then break one of the locks locking up the CPU Kid.
Once a lock is broken, Nebulax will close up the dome and flip his UFO back upright, sending Astro back onto the Mothership and starting the second phase. Nebulax spins the wheel again, only this time, the wheel has five segments on it, losing the icon used in the previous phase. The rest of the phase is copied until a second lock is broken on the dome.
Nebulax then spins the wheel a third time, with only four segments on it and losing the icons used in the previous two phases. This time, Nebulax will move the wheel with his hand after the player stops it, making the arrow point to the next icon after where it was landed.
After the attack and once the final lock is broken, Nebulax's UFO blows up, and the CPU Kid is free. Astro Bot celebrates with the CPU and all the other Bots on the Mothership.
Wheel Events[]
The events for the roulette wheel are as follows:
- Octo-Balloon: Nebulax takes out a giant fish-shaped gun, and shoots rocket squids carrying pink forcefields forward. The player must use the Octo-Balloon to float over the low forcefields and deflate to dodge the high forcefields. After a while, Nebulax shoots a single rocket squid onto the Mothership. The player must inflate the squid to launch Astro towards Nebulax and damage him.
- Twin-Frog Gloves: Nebulax takes out a giant hammer and repeatedly hits the edge of the Mothership, creating a shockwave with every slam. After a few slams, Nebulax will rest the hammer on the Mothership. The player must use use the gloves to break the bottom of the hammer. Nebulax then repeats his attack with the other side of the hammer, slamming the edge more times. The player must then destroy the other side of the hammer with the gloves. Finally, the player must stick the gloves onto the hammer's red spots and walk backward to pull the hammer head off of its handle, where Astro swings it around and launches it into Nebulax's head, damaging him.
- Barkster the Bulldog Booster: Nebulax takes out a giant energy sword and repeatedly slams the blade onto the Mothership. The player must use Barkster to dodge the sword. After a few slams, Nebulax will rest the sword on the Mothership. The player must dash into the blade to shatter it. Nebulax then takes the remaining blade and repeatedly stabs it into the Mothership, requiring the player to dodge again. Nebulax will get tired again and stop after a few stabs, and the player must dash into the blade and shatter the sword again. Finally, Nebulax throws the sword's hilt directly at Astro, and the player must dash into the hilt to deflect it back to Nebulax, damaging him.
- Magnet: Nebulax takes out a giant cannon and launches large cannonballs onto the Mothership. The player must use the magnet to collect the metal debris left from the broken cannonballs. Once the ball reaches its maximum size, the player must throw it at Nebulax to damage him.
- Monkey Climber: Nebulax puts on a visor and takes out two giant pistols, and constantly fires large bullets onto the Mothership. The player must pick up the bullets with the Monkey and throw them at Nebulax's visor. Once enough bullets are thrown at Nebulax's visor, it breaks and he is damaged.
- Skull: Nebulax laughs, takes out a bunch of enemies from inside his UFO and throws them onto the Mothership. The player must defeat all the enemies to continue. Once all enemies are defeated, Nebulax will spin the wheel again. The cycle repeats until the wheel lands on a space that is not the skull. The skull cannot be removed from the wheel.
- In the third phase, if the player makes the wheel land on the skull, Nebulax will not manually spin the wheel and summons enemies onto the Mothership.
- Likewise, if Nebulax makes the wheel land on the skull, he summons enemies as usual. If this happens, Nebulax will not manually spin the wheel again.
Part Two[]
However, Nebulax returns with a vengeance. From inside the Mothership, a blaster is raised up. Astro rides the blaster for the final showdown.
Nebulax ducks inside his UFO and begins throwing various objects at the Mothership. The player must use the blaster to destroy the objects before they hit the Mothership.
After throwing many objects, Nebulax pulls out a giant ship and throws it at Astro. The player must shoot at the ship to deflect it and send it back to Nebulax.
Once the ship hits Nebulax, he retreats into his UFO while its underside is exposed. Finally, the player must keep shooting bullets into the hole in the UFO's underside until it explodes, defeating Nebulax once and for all.
Trivia[]
- His voice actor changed between Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro Bot.
- When you replay the fight in Astro Bot and defeat Nebulax in the second phase again, he will explode right away with fireworks instead of playing the actual ending cutscene.
