Mighty Chewy is the first boss of both Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro Bot. He is a giant mechanical gorilla.
Appearance[]
Mighty Chewy appears as a giant mechanical gorilla, similar to King Kong. He wears golden headphones and has robotic hands and feet. In Rescue Mission, he also has robotic eyes, but for some reason he lacks these in Astro Bot.
Boss Fight[]
Rescue Mission[]
Mighty Chewy has one attack, where he bites down on the building and sends out shockwaves. The player needs to jump over these shockwaves and punch one of his teeth, which will reveal a ring. Using the Grappling Hook, the player needs to pull the tooth out.
After his tooth is pulled out, he will summon enemies. After pulling out three teeth, when Chewy summons enemies, his saliva splatters on the screen, obstructing view. Once all six of his teeth are pulled out, the fight ends and the player receives a ship part.
Astro Bot[]
The player starts this fight with Barkster the Bulldog Booster. The fight starts out with a short platforming section where Astro needs to jump between buildings, while Chewy throws girders at them, which act as bridges.
Chewy can still summon enemies, but he also gains a few more attacks. He picks up a chunk of a building and slides it towards the player. To survive, they need to boost through the glass. He can also pick up a giant Ring-Ring and slam it down on the stage. The player needs to boost into this, making it land on Chewy's head and stunning him. While he's stunned, the player needs to dash into his eye.
Once the player has boosted into both of Chewy's eyes, he will rip the building in half for a brief amount of time. If the player survives this, he will begin biting down on the stage again, like in Rescue Mission. The player needs to break his teeth again to defeat him. After all his teeth are broken, he will open his mouth to reveal a large Boost Gong. Once the player boosts into this, Chewy is defeated, and you will need to hit the mechanical banana to reveal the Spike Bot and the Ape Bot.
Trivia[]
- The building you fight Chewy on in Rescue Mission is modelled after the original PS1.
- While Mighty Chewyās eyes are red and robotic in Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, they are normal in Astro Bot.
- In Astro Bot's level Construction Derby, Mighty Chewy appears twice throughout the level, specifically destroying a platform at the start and using his hand to destroy more platforms near the end.
- Mighty Chewy is the only boss in Astro Bot to make short appearances in a normal level. Wako Tako also has a short appearance before its bossfight, but only in its boss level unlike in Astro Bot Rescue Mission. Space Bully Nebulax appears multiple times before it's boss battle in Astro Bot, but only in cutscenes.
- In Astro Bot's Mighty Chewy boss fight, you can see ropes tethered to his teeth. This could be to prevent Astro from pulling out his teeth, like he did in the first game using the Hook Dualshock ability.
- Ironically these ropes are really useless, as the new teeth are more fragile and they don't need to be pulled as they don't have any loops to hook onto(esspecially when the teeth take more damage from Barkster's dash attack).
- His boss track in the OST, Bite It, is based on the fact that Mighty Chewy's main attack seems to be biting on the floor.
