Astro's Playroom Wiki

1994 Throwback is the final level of Astro's Playroom and the lair of the final boss, the T-Rex. To get to this level, you need to collect all 4-key PlayStation Artifacts by finding it on levels. If you collect all the 4-key PlayStation Artifacts on PlayStation Labo, a message that congratulates the player will pop-up, saying that you have obtained the 4-key artifacts: but 1994 Throwback was activated.

1994 Throwback[]

1994 Throwback

1994 Throwback appears as a gray cube in the basement of CPU Plaza, but after completing the four main stages (Cooling Springs, GPU Jungle, SSD Speedway and Memory Meadow), the ancient symbols (Square, triangle, cross, and circle appear on the cube and open it up, trying to scare the Bots. After a prompt from the game tells you to check it out, the player must head to the basement of CPU Plaza and go to the cube to open it up. Going into it will send the player into a black void filled with references to the very 1st tech demo of the PS1. There will be a PS1 and a PS controller. The power button of the PS1 will blink, so the player has to beam glide on the power button. The lid will close, starting the music. Going up the staircase of memory cards will land you on a stone platform. You will get a checkpoint as well as some extra lives. The T-Rex will appear after a few seconds and roar, beginning the final boss fight.

T-Rex (Tech Demo)[]

T-Rex (Tech Demo)

The T-Rex has four different attacks:

  1. Firing discs out of its mouth
  2. Spitting out enemies
  3. Slamming its tail onto the platform
  4. Biting down onto the platform with its mouth with fire

After biting down a few times, the T-Rex's teeth will flash yellow, meaning the T-Rex will chomp down on one side of the platform and bite sending out a row of flames (watch for the yellow marker to know where to dodge the chomp and tail attacks). Once the T-Rex tilts the platform, it will chomp down at least one to two more times before getting tired. This will be a opportunity to hit the T-Rex's eye. Hit both eyes to finish phase 1.

T-Rex (Robot)[]

Astro will do his victory dance for a few seconds before a green tail and a giant robot T-Rex emerges from behind (said T-Rex being in the style of the game's other bosses). This new T-Rex will roar, and the background will change to a stormy landscape. The T-Rex will start to breathe fire, meaning Astro will have to traverse some platforms to avoid being burnt to a crisp. After clearing the platforms, Astro will make it to a large metal platform, and the T-Rex will stop breathing fire, beginning phase 2. The T-Rex’s second phase has most of the same attacks (disc firing, enemy spitting, tail smashing, etc.), but with the addition of a laser eye attack and a missile firing attack, which will show where it will hit. These attacks will be thrown at Astro back to back, until eventually, the T-Rex’s laser will blast a hole in the floor, revealing a gold trophy. Throwing this trophy at the T-Rex’s eye will stun it, allowing Astro to hit the eye and deal damage to the boss. Do this one more time with the platinum trophy, and hit the other eye enough to knock open the T-Rex’s mouth. Grab onto the latch on the T-Rex’s tongue and pull on it, eventually, the tongues will snap back and smack the T-Rex in the nose. The T-Rex will stand cross eyed and eventually fall off screen while breathing fire, ending the boss fight. Also, the green T-Rex is a robot, due to wired nostrils,a plate on the end of the mouth, metal fragments on the nose and a red circle in it's throat, where it commits attacks.

Ending[]

After the credits roll, the player will be sent to a new area and get Artifacts for the PS5. When the PS5 is collected, it and the other PS5 Artifacts will appear in the center of the PlayStation Labo, congratulate the player on beating Astro's Playroom.

Trivia[]

  • The setting of 1994 Throwback is a reference to the very 1st PS1 tech demo (T-Rex) which showed how the PS1 made the models appear on screen.
  • If you punch the glass or Beam Glide on the glass in CPU Plaza, you can trigger the special CPU animations, even when 1994 Throwback has it scared.
